The IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology is making some changes to how the database and REST API (Web Services) are accessed. We will soon be requiring users to register with the Guide to Pharmacology in order to log in to use the website. Additionally, registered users will need to request an API Key in order to access our REST API.
We expect to roll out these changes towards the end of August 2026.
These changes are necessary so that we can collect accurate user access data to help us maintain GtoPdb as an open-access, freely available resource. There will be no cost for users from non-commercial organisations.
Commercial organisations that use GtoPdb already pay access-fees which support the maintenance, curation and sustainability of the resource. Commercial users should read our sustainability statement for more information on commercial access fees.
As we roll out these changes there will be a guest login feature available, which will allow users access to the website without registering (but without providing access to the REST API). The guest login will remain in place for a limited time as we establish the new registration system, after which all users need to be register.
If you have any questions about these changes or accessing GtoPdb, please get in touch with us.
