Commercial Access Fees for GtoPdb

Why is IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology asking for access fees?

The IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology (GtoPdb) has always been an open-access, freely available resource. Our expert-curated database of pharmacological data has been maintained over the past 10-15 years on ever changing and sadly, diminishing financial resources. We really want to keep GtoPdb open-access for all, but maintaining and updating the database is not free. Unfortunately the current funding landscape threatens our ability to ensure the GtoPdb’s sustainability going forward.

We are therefore asking for commercial organisations, that use GtoPdb, to contribute financially to support the future maintenance, curation and sustainability of the resource.

How much are the access fees?

We have determined what we believe are fair and reasonable access fees that commercial organisations should pay if they are users of the IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology. These are set out below:

Organisation Size* Access Fees (per annum)
Large (250+ employees) £2,000 GBP
Medium (50-249 employees) £1,000 GBP
Small (<50 employees) £500 GBP
* Employee numbers given are an approximate guide. See Definition of an SME (www.gov.uk)

How does my organisation arrange payment?

To arrange payment, or if you have any questions about our access fees, please get in touch with the IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology curatorial team at: enquiries@guidetopharmacology.org, using the subject ‘GtoPdb Access‘, and provide us with your organsation’s name and main contact person. We will then get in touch to arrange the next steps.

Invoices will be arranged and managed by Edinburgh Innovations, the University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation service.
